Capture My Soul - Marie Montibert Photographe - Boudoir Thérapeutique

First Look

Anastassia & Ivan contacted me in a rush to take pictures of their wedding which would take place in 10 days at the Hotel d’Angleterre. This religious ceremony in a Russian Orthodox church was followed by an aperitif and a meal in this very select restaurant in Geneva.

For me this ceremony was a beautiful discovery. In spite of the fact that it’s also a Catholic religion, their habits and customs are very different from what I could know. First of all, the bride meets her future husband in front of the church on her father’s arm. They are surrounded by their loved ones who are also waiting on the church square. The churches are decorated with gold and icons. The interior is flamboyant. Before discovering the interior of the church, her husband gives her the bouquet and then enters the church behind the priest. The guests followed and sat down in the nave of the church. The ceremony, all in Russian, begun. I might as well tell you that I didn’t follow much of it. Luckily, I had reviewed the traditions and the course of the ceremony beforehand. The ritual of repeating every important gesture three times is what makes it specia. The bride and groom had to wear a heavy crown during most of the ceremony. It was a little painful for the witnesses! Some remember it for a long time. 3 is the number of the trinity. There was a lot of restraint and solemnity during this orthodox ceremony. The hugs and congratulations of all the guests brought the ceremony to an end. We then moved on to the festivities.

A & I were surrounded by their closest friends and families of course. I did not attend the preparations and left at the end of the meal! It’s always tricky for me not to know the bride and groom, or to only meet them at the beginning of the ceremony and not be able to greet them afterwards. I need to know the couple, their history and their expectations in order to personalize my work and take pictures that resemble them. In spite of everything, this wedding was a beautiful cultural experience for me. I thank them for their trust and kindness. And also for letting me share some pictures of this day.
